Detailed Team Analysis Of ENG vs AUS For 1st T20 2020 Match

England Full Team Analysis 1st T20 Match 2020:

England managed to share the series 1-1 against Pakistan, a tough workout for its players that will give it an advantage heading into the first match against Australia. That T20 squad against Pakistan is going to be bolstered by the return of some of England’s best T20 players.

Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, and Mark Wood all make a comeback into the squad.

Considering the fact that it was the bowling which suffered most when England was playing against Pakistan, the return of Archer, in particular, is going to be a big relief.

England may go into this match as the favorite but we don’t think it is that much stronger than Australia. It also has a few important questions to answer. Will Tom Banton continue to open the batting or will Jos Buttler take that position? Will England continue to persist with Tom Curran or give Mark Wood a chance?

I think the three players to miss out from the squad for the first T20 are Sam Curran, Joe Denly, and Mark Wood.

England will keep the same top-4 as against Pakistan (Bairstow, Banton, Malan, and Morgan), add Buttler at 5, followed by Moeen Ali and Sam Billings at 6 and 7. This gives England a lot of depth and some serious power.

Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Chris Jordan, and Tom Curran will be the four bowlers in our opinion. The risk with this strategy is that Moeen Ali has to bowl four overs since there is no backup. Sam Curran or even Joe Denly could get a chance instead of Billings if England wants the cushion of the xtra bowler.

Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan are the two batsmen to watch out for because of their amazing consistency and six-hitting abilities while Tom Banton could be the x-factor. The bowling lineup is vulnerable under pressure in our opinion.

Australia Full Team Analysis 1st T20 Match 2020 :

This is the first international that Australia will be playing after a long pandemic enforced break and so the players might take a few matches to get back to complete match-fitness. Unfortunately for Australia, this is a 3-match series and there is just not enough time to get settled.

The players have to be ready to go from ball one.

I believe Australia has a very good squad to compete against England.

Their batting is very strong and the fight for places is intense.

Aaron Finch, David Warner, and Steve Smith seem to be a lock for the top-3 positions. We think Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Alex Carey are likely to get the next four positions. Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and perhaps Rilee Meredith might get a chance to start in the playing eleven.

That is a very strong team and the only real concern is about their current form since they have been out of international cricket for such a long time.

There are close to 9 bowlers available for Australia and any one of them could easily find a place in the international team. We will get an idea of the team’s strategy after the first match but keep an eye peeled for Meredith. He bowls with real pace and could make the English batsmen very uncomfortable.

Among the batsmen, there is an air of familiarity when Finch, Warner, and Smith lineup. You know you are going to get some quality right there. Marnus Labuschagne is the player we are most excited to watch out for.

He scored a century in the warm-up match and has made his intentions of trying to excel at T20 very clear.

With power hitters like Maxwell, Stoinis, and Carey to follow, Australia is more than capable of winning this match and series.

Detailed Players Analysis Of ENG vs AUS For 1st T20 Match 2020

Wicket-keepers :

  • The first choice for the wicket-keeper should be Jos Butler. He is someone who plays the perfect finisher role as well as impress everyone with the gloves. He is an asset and X-factor in the team. He gives about 27 points per game and delivers about 25 points twice in two matches.
  • The other choice for the wicket-keeper would be Jonny Bairstow of England. He has had his own share of inconsistencies in the recent games, but it is not easy to stop him if he gets going at the start. He is someone with a safe pair of hands and a quality T20 batsman who can take on even the best bowlers. He provides an average of 35 fantasy points per match but failed big time in his recent outing against Pakistan without a point.
  • Alex Carey comes behind Bairstow as far as wicket-keeper cum batsman in considered. He is the first choice wicket-keeper in the team and has been consistent in the limited overs for Australia in the recent past. He provides about 15 points per game and delivers about the same once in two occasions. He has played well in practice matches and will carry the form into the series but he is a bit unreliable.
  • Sam Billings is another player who can carry the responsibility behind the stumps for England. He is a solid middle-order player who can up the ante when required. He gives about 25 fantasy points per match and has delivered 30 points in his previous match. He is a good contender for this spot.
  • Josh Philippe is another young potential choice who can don the gloves. He hasn’t played any international cricket and has all it takes to perform at the highest level. He is a high-risk choice despite the talent.

Batsmen :

  • Aaron Finch will be the first to walk into the squad without a second thought. The Aussie opener is one of the best in this format and has the ability to bat for the full 20 overs. He has provided an average of 45 fantasy points per game whereas he delivers 35 points twice in two games.
  • Eoin Morgan will be an automatic choice in the team. The England captain in the limited overs has been clinical for the team in the recent past and performs under pressure. He gives about 40 fantasy points per game and has delivered 12 points in his last performance.
  • David Warner has been one of the best in the limited overs for the Aussies in the last decade. Having more than 2000 runs in T20Is, he is someone who can take the game away very quickly. He has provided about 40 points per game and delivers at least 30 points once in two appearances.
  • Steven Smith is considered as one of the bests in Tests and a top-quality batsman in limited overs. Despite not as aggressive as others, he has played the anchor role amazingly well batting at 3. He gives about 35 fantasy points per game and a reliable choice.
  • There is no doubt that Tom Banton is a superior talent. He was exceptional in the last series and continues to be one of the favorites to make the eleven. He provides an average of 45 points per game and delivered 54 points in his last outing.
  • Dawid Malan is another England player who has cemented his spot and has gained the captain’s belief in him. He has been exceptional in recent times providing about 60 points per game and gave away just 8 points in the previous game which can be considered as a rare failure.
  • Marnus Labuschagne has been a regular in the longer format but is yet to show his brilliance in the shortest format. He is a risky choice right now.
  • Joe Denly is someone with a lot of experience in the longer format of the game but hasn’t been able to make inroads in the limited overs. The top order batsman also bowls legs-spin that has occasionally provided him with breakthroughs. He gives about 25 points per game but delivers just 15 points once in three games. He is not reliable and can be overlooked.

All Rounders :

  • Glen Maxwell will be the first-choice all-rounder in the eleven. There are not many multi-dimensional players like Maxwell who can bat, bowl and take some stunners on the field. He will be someone who can play crucial role in team’s success. He gives about 45 points per match and delivers at least 30 points once in two matches.
  • Moeen Ali follows him to chase the all-rounder spot. He has had a rough year filled with ups and downs but has been able to silence his critics with an incredible innings against Pakistan. Moeen Ali delivers about 30 points per match and has given a whooping 98 points in the previous game.
  • Aston Agar will play a key role as a bowling all-rounder in the squad. The slow left-arm bowler is accurate and with his control makes life difficult for the batsmen. He has a mind-boggling economy of 6.73 in 24 matches and a good candidate to have in the squad. He provides about 37 points per game and delivers 25 points once in two occasions.
  • Marcus Stoinis hasn’t been as effective as one would expect in T20s. He has all the ability to give you four overs in the middle and slog coming at six or seven. He has the big shots with the bat and an exceptional fielder in the deep. He gives about 23 points per game but delivers the same once in three matches.
  • Mitchell Marsh is another player who hasn’t been really able to make any penetrations into the team. With limited opportunities, he has been able to put up performance with the bat as well with the ball. Even though he provides about 32 points per game, he is a high-risk choice.
  • Sam Curran is a reliable lower order batsman and an amazing red ball bowler, but hasn’t been up to the mark in the shortest format. He will be the last priority as the all-rounder.

Bowlers :

  • Mitchell Starc will be the frontline pacer in the squad who will lead the pack. He is known to ball hard-lengths with the new ball and toe-crushing yorker from around the wicket that rattles the batsmen. He provides about 38 points per game and delivers at least 28 points twice in three games.
  • Chris Jordan will start from the other end thereby having left-right combination with the ball. He loves this format and has a lot of variations in the armory that bamboozles the batsmen. He provides about 40 points per game and gave 51 fantasy points in his last game.
  • Pat Cummins is one of the best fast bowlers going around. He has taken 36 wickets in 28 matches at an impressive strike-rate of 17.33 and is a potential choice in the squad. He provides about 35 points per game and delivers at least 30 points once in two matches.
  • Tom Curran is someone who has impressed the fans in the recent past with his all-round performance. He has been quite handy in the middle overs and has lots of variations. He gives about 30 fantasy points per game and delivered 35 points in the last game against Pakistan.
  • Mark Wood has all the statistics with him, but lacks experience. He is a skillful candidate who has been instrumental in picking wickets with the new ball. He gives about 48 points per game and delivers 35 points once in three games at least. He is a risky choice but is a potential game-changer.
  • The wrist spinners are an important part of the squad. England have one in Adil Rashid who has featured in almost every match recently. With longer straight boundaries and square boundaries, Adil can spin the web on the batsmen. He provides about 25 points per match but has managed only 3 points in the previous match.
  • On the other hand, Adam Zampa is someone who suffocates the batsmen by attacking the stumps on a good length that makes it hard to hit. His economy of 6.13 is super-impressive and provides about 30 fantasy points per game and delivers the same once in two matches.
  • Andrew Tye is known for his slower ones that has delivered even the best of the players. He is someone who can bowl all the six balls in an over with different variations. By taking the pace off, the batsman will have to put extra effort that will automatically translate into a wicket. He provides about 41 points per match and delivers at least 25 points once in three matches.
  • Jofra Archer has already established as a Test player, but he has played just one T20I until now. He is someone with raw pace and often uses short ball as his weapon to surprise the batsman. It will be a new test for the 25-year old if he plays for England. He has given 50 fantasy points in the only game he was part of.
